What are your post graduation plans?: I plan on pursuing a career in higher education. Before I apply to a Higher Education and Student Affairs Master’s program, I would first like to gain more experience in the field. I am currently waiting back to hear from institutions about jobs in residential life for next year. *Fingers crossed*
What is your favorite UConn memory?: Move-in day during freshmen year was full of excitement and nerves. I remember going to Convocation in Gampel and President Herbst saying that the youngest freshmen was 15, and then the woman sitting next to me asking if I was the 15 year old.
Why did you become a Husky?: UConn is a champion not just in athletics, but in research and academia too. At UConn, I was able to attain a quality education for an extremely affordable price. The proximity to home was also a factor. All in all, I happy with the choice I made.
What is your favorite place on campus?: As a chemistry major, I have spent a decent amount of time in the Chemistry building. The Chem Café has always been there when I have needed a Coca-Cola and Snickers break.
What have you been involved in at UConn?: I served as the secretary for the Northwest Area Council in my sophomore year and from there have involved myself with various other organizations on campus. I have been a member of the Student Alumni Association for three years, serving as the OOzeball Co-Coordinator last year and the VP of Membership this year. I am a fifth-semester brother of Alpha Phi Omega, a co-ed community service fraternity, where I currently serve as the recording secretary. I am also a member of the National Residence Hall Honorary, an organization of the top 1% of leaders on campus and currently serve as the Director of Communications. This year, I was very fortunate to be given a job as an RA in Northwest, where I serve on the Area Council as an RA Advisor.
What will you miss the most about UConn?: I will miss Dairy bar ice cream. I will miss walking to the Union on most Friday and Saturday nights for late night quesadillas or mozzarella sticks. I will miss being in such close proximity to my friends. But most importantly, I will miss being around the energy that UConn students never seem to run out of.
What was your biggest accomplishment while at UConn?: I would have to say that it would be successfully pulling off OOzeball 2014 with my Co-Coordinator. Much of the planning required knowledge of the location, however, we did not find out the location of OOzeball until about a month before the date of the event. We had to somehow complete two semesters worth of work in that time span. It was a hectic and stressful time, but we managed to do it and got rewarded by staying out in the rain and being drenched in mud from 6 am until 6 pm.
What advice do you have for underclassmen?: There comes that point in time when everyone you know starts asking you what you are doing after graduation and if you’re ready for the real world. Don’t let those questions bog you down. Just knowing that you have gained wonderful connections and learned valuable skills during your time here is enough to make it out there. Don’t stress about it because the opportunities will come.
What is one little known fact about you?: I don’t lead an exciting life, but I can count to 100 in four languages.
Anything else?: Thank you to everyone here at UConn who has made Storrs feel like home for the last four years!
