Spotlight: Iris Wong ’18

Iris is a senior biological science (pre-dental) student with a molecular and cell biology minor from Edison, NJ.

  • What on-campus activities/organizations are you involved in?
    • UConn Marching Band, UConn Pep Band, Band Council, UConn Pre-Dental Society, National Society of Leadership and Success
  • Any fun facts?
    • I’ve never gotten a manicure; I do my nails myself, like for prom and band banquet!
  • Why do you want to be featured as a UConn Senior Spotlight?
    • I’d like to get my name out there in case any underclassmen are bio majors or predental and have questions, such as classes and applications.
  • Any plans after graduation?
    • Dental school or gap year (working, research, shadowing, not sure)
  • Advice for freshman?
    • My advice to incoming freshmen would be to find a group of friends who genuinely care about you. I have real friends to go to when I need to talk, they know what’s best for me, and we always find time to hang out, despite living in different locations on campus. We’ve made so many memories and I wouldn’t have enjoyed college just as much without them.
  • Favorite study spot?
    • I thoroughly enjoyed studying and hanging out with friends in the Garrigus lounge and Putnam my junior year when my friends and I all lived in Garrigus. I’ve always had a soft spot for Hilltop Apartments, and now that we live in an apartment, that’s where we spend most of our time together.
  • What would you do if you had another semester?
    • If I was an undergrad for one more semester, I’d probably take a couple more classes outside of my major, just to see what it’s like, maybe horseback riding or floral arrangements.

Congrats Iris!
